'A walk in the woods can often lead to unexpected surprises.'
Photoshop, 2-3 hours This piece originally started as a speedpaint... the half-baked rendering of snow and background are two main culprits- but then horribly spiralled out of control. Yeah- there's a spring scene and snow together in the same image ><
The shadows were fun to render, as is the lack of overdone detail. I constantly tried to use larger and coarser abstract brushes, with texture overlays to break detailed areas. Seems to contrast well with the rough treatment in the foreground.
It's very cohesive. I love the background as much as the foreground, and the armor stands out just enough to satiate my taste and intensify my curiosity. Kudos! Your work amazes me-- I wish I could paint armor even half so well XD
thanks! I'm glad that you enjoyed the background/foreground contrast ^^ as for the armour, its mostly intuitive and guesswork... I just laid down random tones, and put in highlights- if it looked like armour, then i'll stop at rendering XD

I find this work amazingly detailed and in no way looking like a speed paint. The detailing on the armor is evidence of that. There's enough of the environment in muted colors to make the red of his/her scarf /really/ pop, which then draws you to the great character concept of this...armored man or woman thing. It just conjures up limitless fantasy to mind.
Personally, I got a little bit of everything nice from this picture. Good job, and keep up the good work. =]

wow, thanks for the detailed comment! thanks, I'm glad that the painting came across as a finished piece in your opinion- i was (and still am!) worried by the lack of focused coherence in my pieces, but your comment proved otherwise
